MSp 09 - Crossing the High Atlas Mountains

Our  map  . .  shows  a  massive  string  of  . .  kasbahs
in  this  region  of  the  country.     We're   in  the  
heart  of  Caravan  and  Camel  history.  

  High Atlas     ( 8 - 13,000 feet  high )   is  rather  steep  .  windy .  twisting 

. .  jagged  peaks  .  red soil  .  surprising  amount  of  evergreen  growth  at  certain  elevations 

and
many  many  Berber  donkeys
 and  . .  MINT  fields  everywhere  they  can  level  a  patch  of  ground. 

 It's  an   isolated   uncomplicated   lifestyle
. .   and  a  cold  one  . .   from  November  to  March  

The  Pass   ( Tizi )  is  often  closed

Villages  are  few  and  far  between.     ( All  shots  are  taken  thru  the  bus  window )

Finding  a  . .  flat  spot  . .   to  grow   mint   or   corn   is  a  . .   challenge

Our
Supratour  Bus
stops  twice  during  the  1 p.m.  to  8 p.m.  journey
from   Marrakesh   to   Ouarzazate  

This  stop  is  about  half  way  thru  the  twists  and  turns  in  the  road   ( the  "Tizi" / Pass )  . .  

Supratour   . .  is  a  branch  of  the  country's  train system    ( still  being  developed )

Many  many  many  . .  ' little '  patches  of  . .   MINT   ( not  a  very  good  shot  . .  sorry )

They  manage  to  grow  lots  of    CORN    too.     Every  step  is  either  up  or  down.  

Such  is  the  life  of  the    Berber  people    in  the  mountain  areas

Icy  wind  and  snow  make  winter  travel  . .   impossible  . .  at times

Headed  down  . .  our  minds  are  beginning  to  turn  to  the  . . 

movie  making  . .  "Ouallywood"  film  industry

Rusty  and  Wrinkles  concentrate  on  kasbahs  and  famous  film  next   . .
