MSp 08 - Glimpses of Marrakesh Sites

Ali  Ben  Youssef  Medersa
Quranic  Learning  Center )

once   North  Africa 's   largest
. .  now  students  prefer  to  go  to  the  new  one  in  Fez   . .
This  one  renowned  for  its  entry  . .   saying  . .
"You  who  enter  my  door,  may  your  highest  hopes  be  exceeded"

Each  little  arch  is  over  a  small  window  in  every  dorm  room.     Enrollment  was  once  900

This   ( showroom )  looks  bigger  and  brighter  than  most  . .
Each  is  about   8 X 8    and  very   cell - like

'Quranic'  verse   repeats  itself  on  the  entrance  and  courtyard  walls  . .
Black  script   on  the  bottom  is  in   Iraqi
White  text   above  that  is   Arabic
and  the   3  rows   that  go  up  over  the  archway  are   Moroccan.

Many  of  these  ancient  sites  are  being  used  by  the  birds  . .

"Badi  Palace"   history   . .   includes  . .
storage   of   SLAVES  under  these  trap  doors
in  the  ground  . .
There  are  too  many  pits  too  far  apart  to  include  in  one  photo.
African  Chiefs   and   Heads  of  State   got  wealthy  selling   'people'  to  several  continents.
Marrakesh  is  on  the . .  slave / caravan  route
to  shipping  centers  on  the  Moroccan  west  coast   ( Atlantic  Ocean )

We  visit  for  a  while  in  the  shade  with  this  couple  from  Russia.
She's  doing  well  with  English.
Their  hotel  is  on  the  east  side  of  Marrakesh  near  the  Tanneries
so  they  have  much  to  say  about  the . .   'odor'  as  well  as  the  early . .   Call  to  Prayer!

There  are  several  large,  well - kept  parks  in  Marrakesh  right  in  the  heart  of  the  city
. .   This  one  called  . .   Cyber Park

It  includes  an  . .  amphi - theatre  . .

And  gets  its  name  from  these   cyber  centers   spaced  throughout  the  park . . .
'If  only'   they  were  "working" !
Good  idea  though  . .   One  worth  copying  . .
( many  'palmed - lined'  boulevards too )

Next  will  be  scenes  from  Ouarzazate  ( war - za - zat )  . .
We'll  be  going  over  the   High  Atlas  Mountains  . .  over   "Tizi  n 'Tichka"
Many  " tizis " . .   all  mountain   PASSES

For  now,   we  remain  Rusty  and  Wrinkles !
