We  walk  there  twice  from  where  we  stay  in  the 

Kazimierz  Jewish  District

Kraków  has  many   FREE   Walking  Tours

We  joined  this  one  to  gain  some  insight  into  our  part  of  town.  

  

"Kazimierz" 

is  the  name  of
Poland's   favorite  King 

. .  ( not  a  Jew ) 

. .   He   started   a   NEW  TOWN    ( naming  it  after  " himself " ) 

"adjacent" to   . .   Kraków  

 knowing  that

the  two  would   'compete'  ..   strengthening 
 BOTH 

Later  he  needed  to 

 put  the   Jewish  Ghetto   ..
's o m e  p l a c e '

so  he decided  to 

temporarily  give  up  a  small  section  of  his  new  town

 Eventually 

when  the  . .  ghetto .. g r e w 

he  both  added  more  land
and 
crowded  them  together  even  closer 

Many  of  these  Jewish  men  worked  at  the

  pots  and  pans  Factory 

   employees   . .   before   . .   Oskar  Schindler  . .   took  it  over

( Remember:    Oskar  was  a    "German   NAZI"    taking  orders  from    HITLER )

Umbrellas  are  open  in  the  Evening  .   Live  Music  adds  a  lot  to  dinner  atmosphere

  

 The  Guide  took  us  to  many  little   nooks   and   crannies   we  wouldn't  have  noticed  . .  including  

a  little   PARK - LIKE   PATIO  AREA     ( off  to  the  left )

and  this  narrow  passage  way  with  . .  BRIDGE  . .  to  get  from

one  crowded  building  to  another 

                                    

She  said  this  Bridge  is  the   most  popular  place   in Kraków  for 

wedding   photography 

and  ..  what  do  you  know 

..  about  that  time 

a   Bride and Groom   appear !

                     

A  large  open  Square   memorializes  with  . .   

CHAIRS

thousands  murdered   in  this  neighborhood

simply  because  they  were  . .  JEW

Nazi  Guards   entered   private  residences  .. 

tossing  . .  young  children  and . .  babies . .  out  the  windows 

Guards  below  would    shoot  them   in  the  air    as  they  fell  to  the  ground.

Others  were  transported  to    Auschwitz - Birkenau   where  they  were  . .  exterminated

  Those  working   at  the    Schindler Factory     were   " spared "

because   Schindler   vouched   for 

his   need   to   keep   them 

to   make  .. 

'ammunition'   ..    for   the   ..    Nazi  Regime

As  the  war  progressed  . . 

➤   these  products    " just  happened "    to  be  . .   more  and  more 

➤  intentionally   . .   'defective' 

➤  . .   a   reverse   plot  . .   to    deliberately  "weaken"   . .   the   Nazi   Arsenal

..   with    living   standards   far  above    other  camps

When  he   had  to  Relocate   the  Factory 

he   insisted  . .    all   these   workers   . .    be    Relocated  . .   With  . .  him

The   actual   Factory  "building"   no  longer  exists   ..   This  Museum  replaced  it

    

These  workers   had  lived  in  the  OUTSIDE   Camp   ..   as  well  as  INSIDE   Schindler's 

. .   They   would   know  . . 

    

Schindler  let  them  use  the  'uncounted'   Pots  and  Pans   for   "BARTER" 

( ..  To   help   them   out  ..  ) 

When  they  made  a  purchase 

They  PAID   part  in  CASH  .   part  in  " Pots  'n  Pans "

     

We    can't    even   begin   to    'imagine'    any   of   this    . . .

                                                

 No  wonder   . .  they  speak  well  of  . .   "him"   . .

If   ALL  details  could  be  told  . .  including   . .   HIS   OWN    INNER  TURMOIL

his    ( AUTO )  -  BIOGRAPHY    would   amaze

In  Spite  Of  . .   his  being   a   "Nazi"   working   under   "Hitler"

His   WILL   revealed   His  Desire  . .   to  be  . .   buried

 Hopefully  as  time  goes  by  the  stories  of  many  " helpers " -  rescuers

. . .   That's  how  long    S A L T    has  been mined here  in  Krakow,  Poland !

At  one  point  . .  in  the  history  of  this  mine  . . 

SALT   brought   in 

1/3   . .   of   Poland's   income

There  are  . .  200   miles  of  Chambers 

. .   supported  by  . .  WOOD  . .  because  . .  metal . .  rusts

Altogether  . .   downward   . .   there  are   800  steps
. .  beginning  with  the  first  spiral  of  . .  380

Long  work  hours   

arriving  before  sunrise   .   leaving  in  darkness  as  well

 Miners  entertain  themselves 

 then  and  now 

. .  by  Sculpting  things  from  the  SALT 

     

In  we  go . . .

 400  miners   are    still  employed  here
