'SUN CITY'   . .   Is  a  large Amusement  Park  

. .  about  2+  hours  west  of  Johannesburg - Pretoria.   

Built  by  a  Durban  hotel  magnate  during  the  Apartheid  era 

. .  skirting  the  laws  banning  Gambling  and  Nudity  . . 

( because  . .  there  were  . .   NO LAWS  . .   ' in  the  Land  of  Make - Believe ' ) . . 

It  opened  in  December  of  1979  . .  at  that  time  for  wealthy  whites  only.

                                    

From  the  Parking  Lot  . .  Visitors  board  Shuttle  Buses  to  the  Main  Gate  . .

                                                 

Entry  goes  first  through  the  slot  machines  of  the  Casino  . .

                         

Nando's  is  a  big  fast  food  chain  in  South  Africa  . .  We've  seen  several  Kauai  eateries  too 

                                                 

Sort  of  Disneyesque  . .  together  with  a  bit  of  Vegas 

. .   3500  people  earn  pay checks  at  this  Resort  that  now  entertains  all  races  . .

                                            

Monkeys   .   Elephants   .   Lions   decorate  the  grounds  . . 

Adjacent  to   Sun City  are  the  real  animals  in    Pilanesburg  Game  Reserve  . . .  

A    Crocodile  Farm    is  somewhere  on  this  acreage  . .  

and    Hot Air Balloon Rides   attract  attention  as  well  . .

                                         

The    Palace of the Lost City   . .   sits  above   . .   nestled  in  the  trees. 

                                       

The    Main  Gate  price   to  get  in  has  dropped  . . .  from  $8   to   $6   . . 

 but  now  there  are  additional  fees  to  enter  the   Maze of the Lost City 

 . .  the  Valley of Waves  . .   the  2  Golf  Courses  . .  etc. 

  

                                      

                                                

This  is  it  . .   The Valley of Waves   . .  a  big  attraction 

. .   spacious  sandy  BEACH  . .  periodically  a  huge  WAVE   is  released  . .   people  love  it.    

Hourly  the  BRIDGE  shakes  and a   VOICE   booms  out  statements  about a  lost  civilization   . .

The  long   WATER  SLIDE   is  popular  too  . .

                                 

We  reverse   Shuttle  back  to  the  Parking Lot.    We  are  wearing  Jeff  out !    

He  mentions  that  he  is  learning  "something  else"   . .  

that   " Tourists  work  very  hard   . .  day  after  day ."     HE  . . .  is  EXHAUSTED !

                                                             

This  sign  caught  our  eye 

. .   almost   as  many   STAND   . .   as   SIT . .  plus  so  many  kilograms  of  Goods.

                                                           

We  were  curious  to  see  what    this    Sun  City  offers  . . 

since  several  of  us   LIVE  IN  . .  a  Sun  City  residential  development.

Rusty  and  Wrinkles  are  deciding  to  pass  on  the  19  Hour  Bus  ride  westward  . . 

Instead  we'll  spend  less  than  2  Hours  in  the  air  ( South  African  Airways )  . . 

Cape  Town  is  next   . .   ready  or  not !
