out  of  the  U - Bahn  subway  station   and  look  straight  into

ST.   STEPHEN's   CATHEDRAL

This  King - size  bed   Coffin   is      ( to  the  right  of )     the  St.  Stephens's  Altar

It's   the  

"Tomb"  of   Frederick  III  

who  ruled  almost   . .   8  decades 

in  the  . .  1400s

He's  considered  to  be  . .  the 

" Father    of    Vienna " 

because 

he  turned  a  small  village  . . 

Into   a    Royal   cosmopolitan  -  ish   town !

                                                                                                            

We've  emerged  from  an  

Underground  Tour  . .  beneath  the  Cathedral

Mausoleum   of  the   Hapsburg  family

This   location   contains   . .   only   the   'ENTRAILS'   . .   of   this   gang   of   relatives !

       1.    It   calls   itself    OSTERREICH     ( Eastern  Empire )

       2.    It  both   STARTED   and   LOST  World  War  I

       3.    It's   not   German   but  it's   official   LANGUAGE   is   German

               4.    In  1900   Vienna   was   World's   5th  Largest City    after  N.Y. - London - Paris - Berlin

               5.    They  smoke  more  cigarettes  than  any  European  Country   yet  live  80 yrs  average

               6.    The  people  are  75%  Catholic

       7.    Nearly  1/4  of  Vienna  was  destroyed  in  WW II

       8.    Vienna  is  considered   The  WEST's    EASTern  -  most   City

       9.     For  almost   6.5   Centuries   Vienna  was  the  Capital  of  the  vast   Empire  called

                                                     Austrian   (or)   Austro  -  Hungarian   (or)   Hapsburg

             10.    That  Empire  collapsed  with  the  loss  of   WW I

             11.    During  the  Cold  War  ..  Vienna  became   for  a  time   a  ..   "Den  of   Spies"

             12.    Beethoven . Mozart . Brahms . Strauss   all  called  Vienna   " groundbreaking home "

to  get  in  on  a  live

She  made  this  look   . .   so   simple

                                                    

           

No  bad  seats  here   . . .   We  loved  being   UP   and  right  square  in  the  Middle

         

Several   (Drummer included)   proved  how  much   FUN  complicated  music  can  be

 

The   Audience   was  probably  largely  TOURISTS   ..   who  loved  it  all

We  enjoyed   lots   of   conversation   with

Jewish   honeymooners   from   the   Island   of   Cyprus

                                                                      

Vienna   doesn't   fit   into   one   blog  -   to  be  sure
