Swtz07 - Hike to Trummelbach Falls - Lauterbrunnen Valley

View from "our  room" at  Valley Backpacker Hostel
in the   Lauterbrunnen Valley   central Switzerland . .
September 25, 2017 . . we'll remember this !
Our deck has little table and chairs . . and a drying rack.
We're moving 'north' . . always by Train . . and do they ever have many types here
the only sensible way to deal with these very  steep inclines   and  deep valleys

We decide to strike out on foot to the other end of the Valley floor
to look for   . .   Trummelbach Falls
about an hour "that - away"
The scenery is  no - doubt - about - it  . .  SWISS
with  cows  .  sheep  .  &  "BELLS"

and  Chalet - style Homes  .  Wide Roof Overhangs  .  Flower Boxes

and  Valley  community  CEMETERY
well - groomed  and  lovingly attended by the
 . .  surviving family members

This Falls is as much about  Cave  and  Climbing  as it is about  Water
You begin with an elevator ride up . . before you climb  higher  and  lower
and  around  and  above  and  behind . .
through  tunnels
often with peekaboo views
down into the valley floor   (or)  across into forest or snowfield

Perspective  gets lost  . .  and of course Falls don't stand still . . filming is not an amateur art

Once you spot the Swiss Flag you have a choice
. .  head for the Bus Stop
or  . .  retrace your hike across the cow fields
and back through the Valley
The temperature is nice.  We opted to walk back enjoying the scenes in reverse

Some sit and snack a while.   Everyone heads for the . .  HIS  and  HERS

Next is  . .  Schilthorn  and  Piz Gloria  and  James Bond (?)
Calendar Day  . .  September 26  . .  a great day

Swtz06 - Lausanne - Vevey - Montreux

In the essence of "time" . .
I will zoom thru a few of many many topics
to give you a sample of the settings we are enjoying

St. Francis Church (below)
has . . in our estimation . . a unique . . prize-winning . . thought-provoking . . creative way
to prompt curiosity

We were about to leave . . thinking we would be saying to our blog buffs
"If you discover what this is all about before we do . . let us know"

Then we inquired at a desk and to our surprise  . .  this mystery became a favorite stop in Lausanne

Her young enthusiastic commentary was detailed and exciting . .
95  . .  burned  . .  destroyed  . .
LADDERS
represent  Luther's  95 Theses

and  are  reminders  that
NO occupation (including . . Clergy) is  above  others
Each human being can pray directly to God without . . going/climbing . . through Mary,  Saints . .

Work righteousness   is  NOT  the "ticket" to Salvation
Christ  died  for  ALL  mankind
(status  .  righteousness  does not increase step/rung by step/rung)

(rungless) GRACE   is the  "Gift  Christ  offers . . freely  to . . ALL  His  Creation

We have a choice . .  ACCEPT  or  REJECT  . .  His Gift to us
G = God's   R = Riches   A = At   C = Christ's   E = Expense
Christ paid the price   . .  for everyone's sins  (omission or commission)

We don't climb ladders  . .  to  gain  "GOODNESS"  to get to  . .  Heaven
Christ . . "paid the price" . .  (did the "climb"/DIED FOR . .  for all mankind

★  It's  not  about  US   . .   It's  a  "Done  Deal"  . .

   It's  what . .  CHRIST   DID   FOR   US    !!

Indulgences  (buying . bribing)  are  burned  .  destroyed   .  worthless . "hollow" schemes

  HEAVEN   . .   is  NOT  . .  "FOR  SALE"
Heaven  is  . .   Life  With  God.           Hell  is  . .   Separation  From  God

Down with  . made-made . phony . worthless . fund-raising  gimmicks  that give empty
false hope

Every trip we see weddings.   This one at the  . .  Courthouse.
(Different combinations of relatives are taking turns with the bride and groom)

Calvin  (Reformed)   . .  believed Church and State are  NOT  separable.

John Calvin  (Geneva)  founded this  CATHEDRAL  (below)  in Lausanne
the largest Church in all of Switzerland  . .
. .  just across the  BRIDGE  (Pont Bessières)
with a railing designed to discourage suicidal people from jumping.

Switzerland has one of the highest suicide rates in Western Europe
Between Christmas and New Year's social workers are stationed here
serving soup and coffee . .  offering counseling to people who might be contemplating ending it all

The Lausanne Waterfront is extremely popular and inviting
called . .   OUCHY  (ooo - Shee)
Boats  .  Benches  .  Play Equipment  .  Trees  .  Olympic Museum  .  Promenade (miles long)

After taking the train up to the  CHEESE   and  CHOCOLATE  towns  at and near  Gruyeres
we strolled along the waterfront promenade of
MONTREUX
a Swiss Gymnastics and Acrobatic Festival was in full swing

and an Air Show . . that we had seen practicing in the sky from Lausanne

Back in Vevey for the end of the day . . we find a Food Festival on it's own promenade.
Lots of ethnic round-the-world tastes to choose from
This giant  FORK  (in the water) is related to the Nestle Company
(another story . . another day)

Charlie Chaplin
spent the last 25 years of his life here in Vevey with his 4th wife and their 8 children

At one time the American FBI and powers - that - be  in the U.S. government
suspected him of being pro-Communist
and declined to re-issue his VISA entry back into the states
( toward  the  end  of  WWII )
(a confusing issue because the U.S. and Russia had been Allies fighting together against German Nazis)

CHAPLIN'S  WORLD
( in Vevey )
begins at the home where he lived with  wife OONA  and their  8 children . .  lots of family photos

Then everyone moves on  (by group)  to his

STUDIO

When the Story of His Life concludes
the Curtain opens and to everyone's surprise
We all enter the World of Charlie
with many rooms and displays and animations and interactive participation
Great place . . Unique life . . Talented "Brit"  (born in London . . raised in orphanage)

I had never seen his   NORMAL   look.
He's quite nice looking

This is the  famous caricature  that brings to mind . .  CHARLIE  CHAPLIN

And this   "TRAMP"-  look  made him unforgettable
The fitted Jacket  .  Baggy  Pants  .  Floppy Shoes  .  Cane  .  Hat
Grandma and Grandpa "Great" probably knew his story well.

I only add this because    Age 77    rings a bell . . this week
 (my own new landmark year)

(Look closely . . you'll  see someone you know) . .   Dick enjoys this slapstick.
These were    Silent Movie   days
so  ACTION   mattered !
In one of his movies . . Charlie ground round and round up over between all these gears

TRUE  !

Wife  "OONA"  -  all indications say they had a very happy marriage

. .   Very   ⇣  Interesting  . .

End  of  Day
 Ice Cream Silhouette
(Vevey is a cute little "top of Lac Leman" town)

On we go into the Berner Oberland region and its many famous mountain towns
(including  September 26)

Swtz05 - Home of International Olympic Committee

INTERNATIIONAL   OLYPMIC  HEADQUARTERS

How's this for a Setting !

On the northern shore of   Lac Lehman    ( Lake Geneva, Switzerland )
at   Lausanne   (Loh-Zahn . . rhymes with ' no dawn ')

Up we go . .  starting at the top floor  . .  already impressive

The full spectrum of the Olympic topic is covered from the   Origin   of the Games

It    originally    involved a  5 Day Event
Notice the actual action was on Day 2 and Day 4
and the list of Events was 'short'

Training was  . .  "Education"

Nothing on this scale happens without   LEADERSHIP   . .  Prominent people are highlighted.

One of many things of interest were . .  THOSE  WHO  . .   PARTICIPATE

Diversity . .  is a 'given'   (it began with creation)

These have found  . .  their own way   . .  to celebrate it

Diet  matters . .

Emotions  . .  matter

Motivation  . .  matters

Training   . .   matters

JOY   in   winning   . .  matters

Photographic    POSITION    . .  matters

Multiple "Takes" (photographically)   to show massive muscle movement  . .  matter

"MY"   Sublime  Moment  . .  matters  !

DECISION  . .  and   GOAL  SETTING  . .  matters

Preparing the   PLACE    . .  matters

REMEMBERING  EXCELLENCE   . .  matters
(Simone Biles)

MEDALS  . .  recognizing  "Achievement"  . .  "reaching"  the  . .  GOAL . . matters

"Appreciation"   for what is takes to   WIN  . .   matters

And there's more about Lausanne worth mentioning that we'll include
in the next episode
